Bring Efficiencies and Savings to Tape Backups

Magnetic tape storage has been a feature of the data center since the very earliest days of computing. Reel-to-reel tapes have evolved into high-capacity tape cartridges, boasting exceptional durability that continues to earn them a place in over half of today’s hybrid data centers.

Yet while tape backup tends to be inexpensive and reliable, the proliferation of data—over time—can drive up the total cost of ownership (TCO), transforming it from a minor expense to a pricey backup target.

Arcserve Does Tape Backup Software Differently

Arcserve unique tape drive backup technologies improve the economies of data protection to:

  • Enable longer retention periods
  • Reduce storage
  • Integrate powerful deduplication into your existing backup environment

Store critical data on nearly any tape device, from a single tape drive to huge tape libraries. Manage more data in more locations. Reduce time spent managing backups, no matter how simple or complex your infrastructure.

As a foundational solution of Arcserve’s data protection solution portfolio, our backup’s modular architecture enables you to start small and grow as you need to, adding modules to provide additional levels of protection without having to learn a new product or buy another solution.

Proven Tape Backup Software for Data Protection

Arcserve Backup Software has been a staple in global data centers for years. Loaded with highly powerful capabilities, it gives businesses highly reliable data protection and data backup solutions at a fraction of the cost of alternative solutions.
Stop wasting time sifting through data with centralized management and storage resource manager (SRM) reporting. Monitor the status of all backup activities, find the nodes that are taking the longest, locate backed-up data, and track volume, disk, and memory usage on every production server
Quickly restore individual application objects from Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server, and Microsoft SharePoint
Incorporate sophisticated functionality into your VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix XenServer platforms. Simplify system management with a view of your entire environment and mitigate the risk of data loss on virtualized servers
Deliver faster, more efficient backups and restores with UNIX and Linux data movers for SAN-based backups
Increase reliability with smart restore capabilities. Redirect restore jobs to other media containing the same data without any manual intervention
Meet application-specific requirements with backup to disk, backup to tape, disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T), disk-to-disk-to-cloud (D2D2C), virtual tape library (VTL), hardware snapshot support, multiplexing, and multi-streaming
IT downtime can impact all our customer-facing and back office operations – from serving customers in ships’ restaurants and managing bookings to running the monthly payroll…Arcserve Backup automated the backup process and supports multiple tapes and jobs simultaneously, thereby halving the time taken to run a standard backup routine.

How It Works

Traditional-Tape-Based-Backup-Diagram

Arcserve Backup software is a comprehensive storage management solution for distributed and multiplatform environments that can back up and restore data from every machine on your network, including those running Windows and Linux. It offers complete control and visibility from one management console, whether supporting small-scale or large-scale enterprise environments across different platforms and organizations.

Monitor From a Central Location

Once installed, with Arcserve's tape backup solutions, you’re able to create, manage, and monitor backup jobs from one central location. Jobs are submitted on the primary server and can be run either locally on the primary server itself, or remotely on any of the associated member servers. Perform job operations such as backup, restore, merge, scan, migrate, copy, compare, and so on for all servers from the primary server. Monitor the job status of from the central job queue.

Automatic Cataloging

Central database management is easy with all jobs, sessions, and media information stored in the centralized database. In addition, a central catalog file is created with descriptive information about each session and allows you to select the specific files and directories to be restored without having to query the database itself. When data needs to be restored, Arcserve Backup can quickly browse the content of each session in the catalog file from a single central location to locate the information for efficient data asset management.

Centralized, Scheduled Reporting

With central reporting, you can launch and create scheduled reports for all servers in a domain from the primary server. Schedule, preview, print or email reports for all domain servers from the primary server.
