Today’s release of Arcserve ShadowProtect 8.0 with ShadowControl 4.8 helps MSPs simplify data protection and recovery management in Microsoft Hyper-V environments.
Client environments continue to grow; ransomware threats continue to evolve, and technician resources remain limited. ShadowProtect 8.0 expands protection and recovery capabilities for MSPs supporting Hyper-V environments with native host-based Hyper-V protection, building on proven agent-based backup already used in a wide range of customer environments. Combined with Arcserve ImageManager 8.1, ShadowProtect 8.0 enables MSPs to select the most appropriate protection model for each workload, verify recovery readiness through recovery testing and monitoring workflows, and reduce operational complexity while maintaining consistent recovery outcomes.
ShadowControl 4.8 extends that strategy by bringing management control and visibility into a single console. As the central platform for monitoring and managing protected endpoints, ShadowControl now includes visibility into host-based Microsoft Hyper-V environments and recovery verification status. Following the releases of Arcserve ShadowProtect 8.0 and Arcserve ImageManager 8.1, ShadowControl 4.8 continues a focused release cadence that helps MSPs streamline operations while maintaining confidence in recovery readiness.
Protect, verify, and control describe the three jobs an MSP data resilience practice has to do well. Backup activity alone no longer satisfies clients, insurers, or auditors. Recovery has to be provable, and oversight has to scale across many client environments at once.
Protect. Arcserve ShadowProtect 8.0 delivers image-based backup and disaster recovery, adding native host-based protection for Microsoft Hyper-V while keeping agent-based protection available where deeper application awareness matters.

Faster Microsoft Hyper-V onboarding. Installing the ShadowControl endpoint agent on a Hyper-V host brings the host into ShadowControl, and guest virtual machines are enumerated into a host-to-virtual-machine hierarchy that updates as machines change.
One view of both protection modes. Agent-based and host-based endpoints appear together in a filterable dashboard, without duplicate representation when a workload moves from one model to the other.
Centralized job management and alerting. Technicians configure, run, and monitor backup jobs across virtual machines centrally, while failures and critical events surface at host, virtual machine, and machine level.
Verification status where technicians already work. Advanced Verification pass and fail status, triggers, and history from Arcserve ImageManager appear inside ShadowControl for agent-based ShadowProtect deployments.
Reliable alert delivery. OAuth2 modern authentication for Gmail and Microsoft 365 email notifications replaces Basic Authentication, which Microsoft is retiring for SMTP in December 2026.
Centralized verification status also strengthens the client conversation. Instead of reporting that backups ran, MSPs report that recovery was tested and passed, with history to support the claim.
Protect, verify, and control to extend past a single console. The wider Arcserve MSP portfolio gives partners more billable coverage without adding another vendor relationship.

The MSP-focused releases are arriving on a steady cadence. ShadowProtect 8.0 and ImageManager 8.1 were released in June; ShadowControl 4.8 brings both into one console in September, and an additional ShadowProtect release is planned in the near future.
The MSP data resilience conversation is changing because clients now ask for proof of recovery, not reports of backup activity. MSPs remain prime ransomware targets, with roughly 75% reporting at least one breach in the past 12 months.
The latest Arcserve partner survey shows about half of partners discuss ransomware with clients weekly, and roughly a quarter discuss it daily. Immutable backup leads those conversations, followed by SaaS data protection.
The 2026 State of Data Resilience market study, based on responses from more than 200 IT professionals worldwide, shows where the gaps sit. 24.1% have not tested full recovery. 49.2% have deployed immutable backup storage, while 52.3% have already faced ransomware.
