Arcserve ShadowProtect 8.0: Host‑Based Hyper‑V Protection with Faster, Simpler MSP Operations

Written by Arcserve | May 21, 2026

Managed service provider (MSP) partners need flexible data resilience solutions to keep costs low and service levels high. To help MSPs with these goals, Arcserve is releasing new support for Microsoft Hyper-V, advanced OAuth 2.0 for STMP capabilities, and advanced backup verification with the upcoming release of Arcserve ShadowProtect 8.0 and Arcserve ImageManager 8.1.

To best serve the strong MSP community that has relied on Arcserve data resilience solutions for decades, the company is investing in an expanded technology roadmap, a new MSP Zone partner portal, market-through campaign resources, and additional Arcserve personnel to help MSPs grow their business and best protect customer data.

ShadowProtect 8.0: Hyper-V Agentless Backup, Expanded Security

Managed service provider (MSP) operations are quickly changing to accommodate market conditions for hypervisor flexibility, low-cost IT management, and continued ransomware threats.

Hybrid infrastructure is now common across customer estates. Cyber insurance and compliance programs have raised expectations for documented recoverability and auditability. Ransomware groups increasingly target MSPs as supply-chain entry points, making MSP security inseparable from customers' cyber resilience.

The upcoming release of ShadowProtect 8.0 data resilience includes new capabilities to support changing MSP environments.

  • Host-based backup for Microsoft Hyper-V environments to simplify deployment and improve operational efficiency.

  • Agent-based backup support for workloads that benefit from application-level visibility and granular recovery control, including Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange.

  • Enhanced backup verification capabilities to strengthen recovery confidence by validating backup integrity before an incident occurs.

For MSPs, backup success is only part of the story. They also need clear evidence that recovery data is ready to use, along with an efficient way to monitor backup health across customers and environments.  That is where Arcserve ImageManager extends the value of Arcserve ShadowProtect by helping MSPs manage retention, replication, and verification workflows with greater visibility, auditability for compliance, and reduced manual effort.

The upcoming release of Arcserve ImageManager 8.1 adds enhanced verification capabilities designed to help MSPs strengthen recovery readiness, support compliance conversations, and reduce the time technicians spend checking backup status. The update is especially valuable for MSPs that want more transparent, auditable verification reporting as part of their resilience services.

  • Advanced verification enhancements that provide deeper insight into backup integrity and recoverability.

  • A new history view and improved interface readouts to make backup verification results easier to review without digging through logs.

  • Exportable verification history and API support to help MSPs support audits, compliance reviews, cyber insurance documentation, and customer reporting.

  • Improved virtual boot testing and operating system disk checks for agent-based backups, helping teams identify issues earlier and strengthen confidence in recovery readiness.

  • Continued monitoring and visibility for both agent-based and host-based ShadowProtect backup images, giving MSPs a clearer operational picture across protected workloads.

Arcserve MSP Portfolio: Protection and Recovery Across Hybrid Environments

Arcserve solutions support scalable protection and recovery services across hybrid customer environments, including Arcserve ShadowProtect, Arcserve ImageManager, Arcserve SaaS Backup, and Arcserve Cloud Cyber Resilient Storage.

Immutable Recovery Data: Reducing Ransomware Impact

Ransomware and supply-chain attacks increasingly target backup infrastructure as well as production systems. Immutable and isolated storage environments are becoming essential components of cyber resilience strategies because recovery data can remain protected during sophisticated attacks.

Compliance and Cyber Insurance: Auditable Recoverability Matters

Compliance frameworks and cyber insurance providers are raising expectations around recoverability, auditable backup verification, and operational resilience. Many organizations are asked to demonstrate secure backup architectures, recovery testing, and documented resilience processes during insurance renewals and regulatory reviews.

For MSPs, these requirements increase delivery pressure and expand demand for verified resilience services.

Updated MSP Partner Portal to Drive MRR and Customer Satisfaction

To help MSP partner market, sell, and learn technical tips, Arcserve is also introducing the new MSP Zone partner portal to give partners faster access to practical enablement resources designed to help drive growth.
