CA ARCserve® High Availability Product Features

CA ARCserve High Availability provides unique functionality, adds new application and platform support, and eases management through the following new features:

Windows Server 2012 support — Support for NTFS deduplciated and ReFS volumes, Hyper-v 3.0 VMs and Windows Server 2012 Storage Spaces. What's New in r16.5?

Application-Aware LAN and WAN Optimized Replication — After the initial synchronization, only block-level changes to files and data are replicated. Application-aware means that no custom scripting is required for Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint, IIS and Microsoft Dynamics CRM, as well as for Oracle and BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Works on Windows, Linux and UNIX systems running on physical and virtual servers.

Automatic and Push-Button Failover — Provides real-time server and application monitoring with automatic and push-button failover, keeping employee and IT productivity high.

Full System Protection — Protects the Windows operating system, system state, application and data through physical-to-virtual and virtual-to-virtual replication and failover to a VMware ESX, VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V or Citrix XenServer Replica server. Speeds the deployment process and, because the Replica server is offline, you may be able to eliminate operating system and application license fees to reduce disaster recovery (DR) costs.

Cascading High Availability — Implement a multi-server failover strategy to leverage multiple onsite and offsite resources simultaneously. Manually determine which server to failover to when needed. Helps deliver both disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.

Custom Application Protection — Provides a wizard-based tool to create replication and high-availability scenarios for third-party and custom applications without having to write scripts in many cases.

Physical and Virtual Server Support — Protects virtualized server environments (VMware, Hyper-V and Citrix XenServer) and enables the use of virtualization to help reduce DR costs. Is also the perfect tool for physical-to-virtual server migration.

Data Rewind for Continuous Data Protection (CDP) — Enables quick and easy data rewind to known, good points in time, after data loss or damage.

Automated Recovery Testing — Ensures that the failover system is ready, with no disruption to your production environment. Offers optional VSS Snapshot for application-consistent backups off the Replica server.

Secure Communications — Provides 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption over the network without a virtual private network (VPN) or IPSec tunnel.

Unified, Centralized Management Console — Makes CA ARCserve High Availability easy to deploy and manage. Includes replication and failover for the management service itself.

Offline Synchronization — Provides an alternative to LAN and WAN synchronization to more easily transfer large Windows-based data sets and databases to speed replication without impacting network utilization. Enables physical transportation of a data copy while replication is underway and shortens time-to-protection.

Multi-Stream Replication — Enables the use of multiple data streams to increase network replication throughput over high-latency local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs).

Amazon Cloud (Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) Integration — Enables the use of Amazon facilities, resources and staff for your off-site DR environment for replication and failover. Converts capital expenditure to operational expenditure and makes IT more productive and agile.

Windows Server 2008 Failover Cluster Support — Enhances the cluster support in two ways. First, it eliminates shared storage as a single point of failure. Second, it provides the replication (data mover) capability for off-site disaster recovery. It is integrated with Microsoft Cluster Server Manager.

Scenario Group Management — Provides the ability to group together scenarios for multiple machines to protect distributed platforms such as Microsoft SharePoint, Web applications and document repositories. Enables server groups to fail over together across the WAN. Works with Windows, Linux and UNIX.

SharePoint Farm High Availability — Protects the entire SharePoint farm with individual server and farm-level replication and failover.

Microsoft Exchange 2010 Support — Provides LAN and WAN data replication, automatic and push-button failover, Data Rewind for continuous data protection and automated, non-disruptive recovery testing to protect an Exchange 2010 environment as well as older Exchange versions.

Enhanced IIS Support — Provides protection for IIS metadata that typically contains website configuration information, through LAN and WAN replication, automatic and push-button failover, Data Rewind for continuous data protection and automated, non-disruptive recovery testing, enabling granular protection of individual websites.

Linux and UNIX High Availability — Offers LAN and WAN data replication, automatic and push-button failover and push-button failback, with hard-links support to avoid unnecessary data replication.

No-Reboot Deployment and Maintenance — Eliminates disruption to the production environment. Assessment Mode—Helps estimate LAN and WAN bandwidth needs without disrupting the production environment to minimize network costs.

VMware vCenter High Availability — Protects the VMware vCenter server application, which is critical for VMware environments.

64-Bit Platform Support — Enables x86 to x64 replication and data migration.

Support for CA ARCserve D2D Host-based VM Backup — Quickly and easily replicate ARCserve D2D VM host-based backups (for VMware) offsite for disaster recovery.

Support for CA ARCserve D2D Virtual Standby — Replicate D2D backups over the WAN where ARCserve D2D Virtual Standby will automatically convert them into bootable virtual machines for fast recovery.
