Remote Data Protection/System Availability as a Service
Many IT organizations, especially small businesses, don’t have the time, resources or knowledge to build a viable Business Continuity (BC) or Disaster Recovery (DR) strategy and plan, nor do they even have a remote facility to use. What they do know is that any business disruption for an extended period of time, or significant loss of data will be catastrophic to the health of their business.
So today, IT organizations are turning to Service Providers for offsite data protection and system availability of business-critical systems, applications and data. Businesses look to leverage these services as an extension of their own IT infrastructure and appreciate the ability to convert Capital Expenses (CAPEX) to Operational Expenses (OPEX).
While this offers Service Providers with great opportunity, they need a robust set of tools to meet the varying and demanding requirements of their clients. Service Providers usually build BC/DR services on virtualized system platforms in order to scale as their services and client-base grow. And considering services are typically sold on a monthly SaaS-based model, Service Providers will benefit from a cost structure that matches the way they do business (i.e. payment for what is used only once it’s used). This way, there are fewer up-front expenses that would affect both time to profit and cash flow. CA Technologies is a leader in the data protection market and has tens of thousands of worldwide customers as well as a growing Service Provider ecosystem already using CA ARCserve® software products in their data centers.
With CA’s ARCserve® Managed Service Provider Program, a Hosting Service Provider benefits from a licensing model whereby software is billed on an “as-used” basis. This utility based licensing model enables the Service Provider to optimize their costs in line with their services as they are needed.
If you deliver a remote data protection or system availability as a service solution then you will either have your own datacentre or you will provision from a 3rd party datacentre. Either way you may consider using the ARCserve MSP Program to protect your back-end systems.

Today, many IT organizations just don’t have the time, resources, budget or knowledge to address demanding data protection and disaster recovery needs. Plus, they are concerned about security, availability and performance when considering an email, database, or application hosting service. As a result many companies find outsourcing all or part of their IT responsibilities to service providers an attractive alternative to a hosting service. System and data protection and recovery is a common on-site service offering today and allows IT staff to focus on projects and technologies that help grow the business while converting their IT expenditures from CAPEX to OPEX.
CA Technologies is a leader in the data protection market and has tens of thousands of customers worldwide already using CA ARCserve® software products in their data centers and remote offices. With the explosive growth and opportunity in the managed services space, it makes sense for any Partner looking to build or grow a system and data protection services business to leverage this comprehensive, yet flexible and easy to use solution.
With CA’s ARCserve® Managed Service Provider Program, an Outsourcer benefits from a licensing model whereby software is billed on an “as-used” basis. This utility based licensing model enables the service provider to optimize their costs in line with the services as they are needed.
As the cost of bandwidth continues to reduce and amount of data that can be transferred for a lower cost increases then anyone that is currently delivering on-premise managed services will be able to expand the service to offer an off-premise element – you can continue to use the CA technology via the MSP Program. Due to shrinking IT staffing and budgets, many IT organizations are turning to Service Providers for hosting of business-critical systems and applications (i.e., web hosting, email hosting, and database hosting) as well as providing a secure remote facility for offsite data protection and disaster recovery. Businesses look to leverage these services as an extension of their own IT infrastructure and appreciate the ability to convert Capital Expenses (CAPEX) to Operational Expenses (OPEX).
However, when a company elects to use a Service Providers’ services instead of housing a server internally, the onus for the protection and availability of those services fall firmly on the Service Provider’s head. A Service Provider may commit to certain availability SLA’s that invoke penalties if not met and, as such, the servers in the data center will warrant varying degrees of protection. To this end you will find that Service Providers need a robust set of tools in order to comply with these varying requirements. Hosted systems are usually virtualized in order to benefit from economies of scale and any data protection or availability solutions will thus need to scale as the services grow. And finally, considering services are typically sold on a monthly SaaS-based model any up-front expenses for a Service Provider will affect both their time to profit and cash flow. Service Providers will therefore benefit from any costs that match the way they do business (i.e. payment for what is used only once it’s used).

If you are delivering a hosted service then it would be easy to add a data protection service to the portfolio. By doing this it’s possible to increase cost efficiencies of owning a datacentre.
